    Description: The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to apply genetic engineering technologies to HIV-1 cure research. Gene- and/or cell-based approaches are sought that can achieve long term remission of HIV-1 in the absence of antiretroviral treatment or complete elimination of HIV-1. Applications are expected to include basic science/preclinical research as well as translational activities such as test-of-concept studies in animal models or human subjects and must be designed as collaborative efforts between academia and the private sector.
