“Rhealyz Africa Advocacy Using Storytelling (End GBV)- Kiana’s Story Part 14 “Survival Series 2”

Survivor Psalm

Thinking of Gloria’s mum who had to accommodate domestic violence for a long time before finally choosing to speak out, divorce her husband, and become a survivor. I decided to write a poem on it as part of my survival series;

SURVIVOR PSALM

I have been victimized

Tattooed with scars from punches

Silenced with threatening slaps

Mocked with humiliating words

And despicable actions

But still

I looked forward with hope

Rather than despair

I want to hold on

Just one more chance

He will change—

At the brisk of death

I realized “I can fight”

Not to be accepted

But to be free

To be a survivor

There is strength in being a survivor

My scars are part of me now

I may never forget, but I need

Not constantly remember;

I was a victim

I am a survivor!
