Her mother’s ignorance and her father’s unwavering belief in a twisted tradition cut lives short, starting with the external female genitalia. She was sent to the infamous Iya Alaje, the one with the blade to slash through the clitoris and determine who would live to be promiscuous and who would live with her thighs locked.
Whoever made it out of her thatched-roof hut was favored by the gods and tagged as the one who would not take a second look at her male counterparts. That was the tradition. Iya Alaje was very good at utilizing her tools, so she doesn’t bother to sterilize or change her blade.
One blade for a night, one night to cut up to ten girls, one night to give them a trauma that would last a lifetime, one night for them to bleed to death, one night to kill a generation, one night to turn a few girls into broken vessels, one night to give them a health risk that would last their entire bank account, one night to pass on diseases, one night of nightmares
